Think You Can’t Afford To Hire A Criminal Defense Lawyer? You Can’t Afford Not To.

Payment Plans

Hourly Fees

Flat Fees

While many people sometimes think, "I cannot afford a lawyer" in truth you cannot afford to not to have one. Your freedom, property, or rights could be at risk – and nothing is more important than those.

JAIL OR PRISON

• See the charges and penalties page for presumptive ranges (for drug cases click here)
• Convictions (felony & misdemeanor) are permanent and public:
• Cause loss of job, loss of income, inability to be promoted;
• Loss of professional license / career (CPA, finance, nursing, etc);
• Inability to rent a home / apartment;
• Inability to obtain a loan or financial aid;
• Domestic Violence can loss of right to use / possess firearms

PROBATION:

• Likely to be a period of 1 – 3 years long and may include:
• 12 – 36 weeks of classes on relevant topics to your case (alcohol, drugs, domestic violence, anger management, etc);
• Travel restrictions;
• Weekly check-ins with the probation officer;
• Weekly drug & alcohol testing (urine);
• 24 – 48 hours community service;
• Probation supervision fees $1k - $4k;
• Court fines and costs;
• Restitution if applicable (property damage or personal injury);

DRIVING CONSEQUENCES:

Loss of driving privileges for 9 months or more;
• Car insurance rate premium increase;
• Interlock device on vehicle – embarrassing for work colleagues, family, carpool;
• Relying on slow and inconvenient public transportation, including snowy / cold months;
• Being late to work, school, or relying on other forms of transportation;

As you can see, these punishments are lengthy and can quickly exceed the cost of hiring a lawyer.Unlike the decision to buy a home or car, you don’t exactly plan for having to hire a lawyer – it usually comes as an unwelcome surprise (like having to buy four new tires on your car). Nothing exists to help reduce the costs of hiring a lawyer like health insurance does for medical bills.

Sometimes, in order to protect what is most critical to you without advanced notice, you have to get creative to find immediate sources of payment for the lawyer to help you with your case. We understand and appreciate this. Clients have used credit cards, family, and even the equity in their home to protect themselves by hiring a lawyer depending on what is at stake.
